What a tough week. I’ve been sick most of the week. I ate something funky on Tuesday. I think it was the fired chicken I had for dinner, and found myself doubled over in pain by the morning. It killed my productivity for the whole week, but sometimes, getting so far behind, becomes a good way to focus on what you need to do.
Words of the week:
- Nutrition: I hope this is a good wake up call for me on what I eat. The issue is not so much the grilled chicken itself, but what I was craving when I was sick. While I lost my appetite, my first food that I was looking for were foods rich in fiber (oranges, apples, grapefruit juice – at least what we had around the house). I also completely dropped sugars. Even after 2 days, when I added coffee back in, I stayed clear from sugar. Even today, 3 days later, I’m still not adding sugars.
- Dogs: My dog knew that I was sick. You could tell from her demeanor changed around me, and she was much softer. She even needed fewer bathroom breaks which was very helpful to let me recover.
- Fresh Air: Fresh air has that feeling of cleaning and cleansing. The corollary in productivity, I think, is the ability to take breaks and disconnect. How that plays out, is maybe taking vacation after tough periods and delivery schedules. Especially if they can be vacations where there is no technology involved.
Number of the Week:
- 72: I lost 72 hours (Yeah, I didn’t really sleep through those 2-3 days, so it carried into the first day of recovery). It’s amazing how much time you actually lose to illness (1/2 of what I lost was not being sick, but dealing with the after effects), but I also got a lot more focus.
