A very tough week on the work front. Today is my wife’s last day in the US, as we begin our relocation to Europe. She had a lot of things to do, and I’ve been helping her out with it. The house is in ok shape, not great shape, we still have so much to do. To boot, work has been particularly busy, with one difficult project.
Words of the week:
- Planning: I’m working with one person that is particularly bad at planning her time and getting to an 80/20 solution. I am not sure how much my client gets that this is an issue.
- Strategy: A cardinal sin for me is the confusion between strategy and strategies. I’m of the camp that there is no such thing as strategies, but one overarching Strategy. Strategy with a big S. It includes all the part of the business, including brand.
- Compartmentalization: A big (as in important) word from me, but I think it is so key in trying to solve big problems. You can’t keep all the parts moving at all times, you have to fix things assess and then re-evaluate. Compartmentalization helps bucket things in discrete objects to assess independently.
