This week was interesting. I had my first big project (well the start of it at least). We were working on an audience definition and sizing exercise. Very interesting, but surprising that it had not been done before. It felt very much like a due diligence, but I am not sure it needed to be run like one.
Words of the week:
- Chaos: There was a lot of chaos. Anywhere from people not sure how to help, to people over-reaching. Tempers did flare, and that doesn’t bother me, but it was a bit unnerving to see it play out so early.
- Crazy ex-girlfriend: Someone asked me how excited I was about my work. The only example I could think of is the “Crazy ex-girlfriend”. We’ve all had a crazy ex (whether girl- or boy-friend). You know, the ones that you know right at the start that they are crazy, and so you don’t invest too much, other than you know the sex is good. Problem is, I’m not sure what “the sex” is here.
- Glimmer: The project is super interesting, and reminds me more of the parts of my old role that I liked.
- Bitterness: I am sensing a lot of bitterness with people around me. Quite surprising. Not directed at me, but just the what and how people say things.
Number of the week:
- 80%: One of our metrics is that we cover close to 80% of the population just with three segments. Cool!
This may prove to be very difficult. I’m not feeling the passion that I could about the company.
